Jannik Sinner’s doping case had ended at the beginning of February, when the Italian ace had signed a controversial deal with WADA that provided for a three-month ban for the world number 1. He was unable to compete on the professional tour from February to May, missing several tournaments and risking losing the first position in the ATP ranking, but he did not suffer particularly serious consequences considering that he was regularly able to participate in the Rome Masters 1000 and especially Roland Garros.

Because of their responsibility in that doping case, Jannik had been forced to fire his fitness coach Umberto Ferrara and his physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi. Their place had been taken respectively by Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, who had joined the Italian’s team immediately after his triumph at the 2024 US Open.

Against all odds, both were fired by the four-time Grand Slam champion a few days before Wimbledon without the world number 1 really giving reasons for his choice.

Another very surprising news came a few days ago, as Sinner announced his decision to re-hire Umberto Ferrara as his fitness coach.

The latter will return to work with the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria already in these days, since the Italian champion has just begun his preparation for the Cincinnati Masters 1000.

The world No. 1 will not be present in Toronto later this month, preferring to recharge his batteries ahead of the second half of the season.

Jannik surprised everyone

Because of this surprising decision, famous Italian magazine ‘La Repubblica’ decided to contact Naldi and asked him for a comment on Jannik’s decision to ‘forgive’ Ferrara.

Naldi did not want to break the silence: “I don’t want the nightmare to start again like last summer, which is why I don’t want to comment on this news.

This story has damaged my image, I prefer to talk about it when I am more serene.

I’ll tell my side of the story one day, but it’s not the right time yet.”
