Lewis O’Brien was open to signing for Swansea City before joining Wrexham

O’Brien impressed on loan at Swansea City last season.

In fact, since O’Brien has moved to the Racecourse, Swansea City fans have hailed O’Brien and have told Wrexham fans that they have a good new player on their hands.

And it comes after O’Brien said he was open to a return to Swansea City this summer. Speaking at the end of last season, he said: “I have really enjoyed my time here.

It’s never out of the question, but sometimes it’s not in my hands, especially having to go back to my parent club.

We will see what the summer holds. It’s never say never, really.”

For Wrexham to beat Welsh rivals Swansea City to the signing of O’Brien then, it shows just how far the club have come under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac and how serious they are about not only stabilising the Championship but pushing for promotion.

He posted a lengthy message on social media explaining how the move was a long time coming but how he’s buzzing to finally have joined the club and to settle down somewhere with a longer term contract after several loan spells following his 2022 move to Nottingham Forest from Huddersfield Town.

O’Brien posted: “I’m absolutely buzzing. It’s been a long time coming, but to be here is great.

The last couple of years has been a whirlwind for me and my family, but to sign a long-term contract and find somewhere I can call home is a great feeling.

“After speaking to everyone here, it’s a club with a lot of ambition. I want to be part of that journey, and take Wrexham to where they want to be.”

Having now signed a new goalkeeper in Danny Ward, a full-back in Liberato Cacace, more attackers and now a new central midfielder expect Parkinson to turn towards the centre-back position.

It arguably remains the last position for Parkinson to add some real star quality this summer, though we could well see Wrexham sign some Premier League players on loan towards the end of the summer transfer window in a bid to further bolster the squad ahead of next season.
