Seven-time Wimbledon winner Djokovic has had issues with his stomach since the start of the grass-court Grand Slam as he required treatment during his first-round win over Alexandre Muller.

He later revealed that his doctor gave him “miracle pills” to help him to complete the match.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner also struggled physically during his win over Alex de Minaur in the fourth round while he also suffered a nasty fall at the end of his quarter-final win over Flavio Cobolli.

Djokovic, who has brushed off his aches ahead of his match-up against Sinner, is now just two wins away from winning a record-equalling eighth title at Wimbledon and a record-extending 25th major.

McEnroe, like many others, believes Wimbledon represents a golden opportunity to win another big title, but Sinner won’t be a pushover while the winner will most likely go on to face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Alcaraz has beaten Djokovic in the last two finals at the All England Club, winning in five sets in 2023 and three sets last year.

“Wimbledon is Novak’s best chance to win another Slam, absolutely,” he said on BBC One. “He understands the nuances of this court better than anyone.

“It’s only Alcaraz with his A-game that has figured out a way to dismantle him and show everything that he’s human.

“There’s a bit of uncertainty with Djokovic’s body and his stomach ‘I’m not sure what’s going on there but I’ve never seen a player ice their stomach during a match before.

“He thinks his best shot [at another Grand Slam] is here so maybe he’s putting extra pressure on himself because he wants to break every record that exists and get to 25.”

Italian Sinner leads their head-to-head 5-4 as he has won their last four meetings, including a straight-set win in the semi-final at Roland Garros just over a month ago.

Despite world No 1 Sinner’s strong good form, McEnroe is leading towards Djokovic for the Wimbledon encounter.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner added: “Even he knows he doesn’t have loads more chances to win majors.

He’s had a great looking draw so far but Sinner beat him in the French and started outplaying him.

“But on this court, you would say this is Sinner’s least favourite and Novak’s best at this point so that makes it a real toss-up, maybe even a slight edge in Novak’s favour.”
