Tommy Paul enjoyed a successful end to the 2024 season, winning at Queen’s, meaning he leapt up to 12th in the rankings, which was a career-high for the American at the time. Djokovic achieved his lifetime goal of winning the Career Golden Slam last year, winning gold at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, the 24-time Grand Slam champion announced that Murray had joined his coaching team. Djokovic went on to beat Alcaraz in a four-set thriller in the quarter-finals, before eventually having to retire in the semi-final against Zverev due to injury.

Since then, Djokovic has struggled for form, losing in the second round of the Indian Wells Open to lucky loser Botic van de Zandschulp. His record so far this year sits at 12 wins and seven losses, which led to him announcing the end of his coaching partnership with former rival Murray. Time is running out for the Serbian as he looks to win a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, which would put him ahead of Margaret Court.

Alex de Minaur

Alex de Minaur is a model of consistency on the ATP Tour. He has reached the quarter-finals in the last four Grand Slams, including this year’s Australian Open. So far this year, ‘Demon’ has a record of 26 wins and 10 losses, earning himself just under $2 million.

His best performances include a final defeat to Alcaraz in the ATP 500 event at Rotterdam and a semi-final exit to Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Masters 1000 Monte Carlo in April. De Minaur was unable to advance past the round of 16 in Madrid and Rome, so he will be hoping for an improvement at Roland Garros.

Lorenzo Musseti

Musetti has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2025 season, reaching the top 10 for the first time in his career. He reached the semi-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid, eventually losing to Jack Draper. The Italian is now ranked eighth in the world, which is a career high. He is also the sixth Italian player since 1973 to break into the top 10 of the rankings.

So far this year, Musetti has a record of 20 wins and seven losses, coming closest to silverware when he lost to Alcaraz in the final at Monte Carlo. He will be keen to improve on his best performance at the French Open, which was a fourth-round defeat in 2021 and 2023.

Holger Rune

Holger Rune came close to lifting silverware at Indian Wells, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, Tallon Griekspoor and Daniel Medvedev on his way to the final. He lost the final to Draper, but his performance helped kickstart his 2025 season. A month later, the Norwegian won his first ATP 500 title, beating Alcaraz in straight sets in the final. This also put him back in the top 10 of the rankings.

His most recent appearance in Rome saw him lose to Corentin Moutet in the third round – a match that lasted just under four hours. Rune’s best Grand Slam performances were quarter-final exits at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2023.

Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud is a clay court specialist, with two of his Grand Slam finals coming at the French Open. He lost on both occasions to Rafael Nadal and Djokovic, but with the latter retired and the Serbian struggling for form, it could be Ruud’s time. The Norwegian has impressed in 2025, winning his first Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open, beating Draper in the final.

Ruud lost to Sinner in the quarter-finals at Rome, but will be confident of progressing to the latter stages at Roland Garros when the tournament starts on Sunday, 25th May.

Jack Draper

Draper reached a career-high ranking of five in early May, following an impressive run of results. This included his victory at Indian Wells – his first Masters 1000 title. To win the trophy, the Englishman beat Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alcaraz and Rune. Draper continued this form at the Masters 1000 event in Madrid, reaching the final, where he played Ruud and lost the final in three sets.

The 23-year-old has only lost six matches in 2025, winning 22. He has never progressed past the first round at the French Open and will be looking to end that record in this year’s tournament.

Alexander Zverev

Zverev endured his third successive defeat in a Grand Slam final at this year’s Australian Open. He lost to Sinner in straight sets, losing a crucial tiebreak in the second set against the in-form Italian. Since that disappointment, the German has had a mixed season. He had early exits at Indian Wells and Monte Carlo before winning the ATP 500 event at Munich in April.

He beat Shelton in the final, securing his 24th title. This put him up to second in the rankings ahead of Alcaraz, but the Spaniard has since leapfrogged him again. Zverev lost a five-set thriller to Alcaraz in the 2024 French Open final after being 2-1 ahead in sets. He will be looking to break his Grand Slam duck at Roland Garros.

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz is still one win away from completing the Career Grand Slam. He lost in the quarter-final of the 2025 Australian Open for the second year in a row. The four-time Grand Slam champion has followed this disappointment with three ATP Tour titles. Firstly, he beat de Minuar in the ATP 500 event at Rotterdam before winning his first ATP 1000 event in over a year at Monte Carlo, beating Musetti in the final.

The Spaniard’s latest victory came at the Italian Open, where he beat Sinner in straight sets in the final. He has now won at every major clay court venue, which includes Roland Garros, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome. This has only been done by Nadal and Djokovic.
