Jannik Sinner has pulled out of competing at the Hamburg Open. The world No. 1 is currently battling it out to mark his return to the court with victory at the Italian Open, and Tommy Paul awaits him in the semi-finals.

Sinner recently served a three-month ban as part of a case-resolution agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency in February, and he has hit the ground running upon his return.

The Italian has cruised through the competition so far in Rome, and Carlos Alcaraz will await him if he is able to reach the final.

However, despite being in such flying form, Sinner has opted against a trip to Germany next week. The 23-year-old has withdrawn from the competition, along with several of those who are also still in with a fighting chance in the Italian Open.

Sinner, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Paul and Hamad Medjedovic have all withdrawn from the ATP 500 event after Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ugo Humbert and Sebastian Korda also announced their decision not to compete earlier this week as well.

Damir Dzumhur, Daniel Altmaier, Francisco Comesana, Bu Yunchaokete, and Alexander Bublik will therefore all compete in Germany instead, and any further withdrawals will see Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech – ranked 75th in the world – enter the main draw.

Sinner’s withdrawal means that he will arrive at Roland-Garros with just one clay competition under his belt, whilst others will be well-versed on the surface.

However, his good form over the past few days would suggest that he will not be at a disadvantage when the Grand Slam begins.
