Canelo Alvarez had just won a second undisputed super middleweight crown.

Still, the boxing superstar’s first reaction to defeating William Scull by unanimous decision Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was one of frustration over joy.

“That’s why I don’t like to fight those kind of guys,” Alvarez told DAZN’s Chris Mannix in reaction to Scull seemingly being content to be in survival mode, moving around the ring.

“They came just to survive, to go to the 12th round. That’s why I don’t like them.”

Just then, Alvarez let it be known that he is eager to turn the page to his September 12 mega bout with Terence Crawford in Las Vegas, as announced and confirmed by Turki Alalshikh.

After Alvarez and Crawford faced off in the ring, Alvarez made it clear that he expects a much more thrilling fight against Crawford than the one fans just got.

“I hope September is coming with an other kind of fight,” Alvarez said.

“Crawford is one of the best out there,” he continued. “I like to share the ring with that kind of fighters. It’s my pleasure.”

Initially, Alvarez was not in love with the idea of Crawford moving up two weight classes to challenge him.

But the Mexican boxing legend told Mannix that the incessant public clamoring for it and Alalshikh wanting the fight saw to it that it got done.

Crawford had a ringside seat to watch Alvarez’ low-action unanimous decision win over Scull.

His scouting report?

“Well, he did what he had to do to get the job done,” Crawford said, “for what was in front of him.”

What was in front of him was a Scull who spent a majority of the 12-round bout on his bicycle around the ring, forcing Alvarez to constantly try to close the space between them.

That exertion led to Alvarez landing just 56 total punches to Scull’s 55, though Canelo’s output included 40 power shots which he mostly threw at the Cuban’s body.

The upcoming Canelo-Crawford fight should have a lot more fireworks.

When asked why he will be the man to break Canelo’s stronghold on the 168-pound division, Crawford did not mince words there, either.

“Because I’m the best, that’s why. That’s why everybody is going to come and watch September 12.”
