West Ham central defender Jean-Clair Todibo has labelled Hammers striker and teammate Niclas Füllkrug “world class.”

The Irons’ £35m centre-back has endured a stop-start first season at the London Stadium but has featured more regularly than fellow summer signing Füllkrug.

The German international is now showing glimpses of his quality following his return to action for West Ham.

The 31-year-old has suffered two injuries since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

However, his barnstorming header against Bournemouth last weekend and his overall play gave Hammers fans a taste of what to expect from the striker.

One admirer who was more than happy to discuss Füllkrug’s qualities was Todibo, who is clearly impressed. “Füllkrug is world-class. I don’t think he has anything to prove. He’s shown everyone what a top striker he is.”

But Todibo didn’t stop there: “It’s great to have him back. He’s going to help us. I don’t think people realise how good he is. His mentality is unbelievable. He’s a leader.”

That final comment echoes what a former Hammers director of football Tim Steidten said about the £27m striker in an interview two weeks ago:
“I don’t regret buying him, I’d do it again. Füllkrug has amazing leadership qualities to bring to the group.”

High praise all around, and it’s clear West Ham have an excellent player whose ability and mentality are beyond doubt.

If we can somehow keep him fit, Füllkrug should prove to be a major asset.
