Manchester United may need to sell players in order to bring in new signings for Ruben Amorim, bringing Alejandro Garnacho’s future under the microscope.

Manchester United drew 0-0 with Manchester City on Sunday in one of the more forgettable Manchester derbies.

Neither side really seemed to go for the victory, and a real lack of quality meant few were surprised by the 0-0 stalemate.

Gary Neville was unhappy with United’s approach to the game, feeling that there was a lack of real will and desire to go and win the game.

United take a point and look ahead to Thursday’s Europa League clash against Lyon, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.

Beyond that, United need a big summer window, but Ruben Amorim may be forced to wheel and deal in order to bolster his squad.

Gary Neville on Alejandro Garnacho

Antony is wanted by Atletico Madrid after impressing on loan at Real Betis, whilst Marcus Rashford could land a permanent move to Aston Villa.

Those moves would aid United’s bank balance, but the role of Alejandro Garnacho is likely to come into question once again.

The Argentinian has endured a frustrating season, managing just four goals and one assist in 30 Premier League games.

Garnacho has been adjusting to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 approach but doubts linger over his long-term role in this system.

Selling Garnacho would allow United to reinvest in other players who may be more natural fits under Amorim.

Gary Neville spoke about Garnacho’s future on Sky Sports, and raised a point about Cristiano Ronaldo – Garnacho’s hero.

Neville feels that Garnacho is showing real inconsistency with his performances and sometimes hits real low points.

However, Neville pointed to similar problems for Cristiano Ronaldo in his early days at United.

Neville wasn’t necessarily comparing the two players, but clearly feels that United need to decide whether to try and help Garnacho through his challenges with the hope of huge rewards in the future, or cash in this summer.

“Am I fully happy with Garnacho and his performance levels? No,

I think that he’s inconsistent, but I’ve never known a winger that’s come into the club that’s consistent straight away.

Saka at Arsenal is an absolute unique proposition as a player, where he comes in straight away and he delivers eight out of 10, seven and a half out of 10, nine out of 10.

His lows are never fours and threes, his lows is a six, where he still works really hard.

“Garnacho does hit real lows in his performance levels and his consistency, but to me, that’s not unusual for a young winger, that’s how I’d expect it.

The greatest player probably of all time that’s played for this club, Cristiano Ronaldo, was very inconsistent in his early years.

I’m not comparing them, but I’m just saying he had his challenges, so that’s the issue when you’re in a period like United are – you doubt everything and everyone,” he added.

Interest in Garnacho may linger from January

The Argentinian was in demand during the January window, but no departure materialised.

United wanted £60 million for Garnacho, with Napoli keen to take him to Italy as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Chelsea also wanted Garnacho, and both clubs may still be keen come the summer window.

Napoli are yet to really replace Kvaratskhelia, whilst doubts over Jadon Sancho’s future mean Chelsea could yet send him back – and then move for Garnacho.

If £60million is put on the table, United will have a decision to make: cash in or attempt to keep developing Garnacho in the hope of him fulfilling his potential under Amorim.
